Material overview

Why industrial buyers specify Nickel 201

Nickel 201 retains the corrosion resistance, conductivity and fabrication characteristics of commercially pure nickel while controlling carbon to 0.02% maximum. This low-carbon chemistry helps prevent graphitization and carbon-related embrittlement during prolonged exposure above 315 C.

Low carbon

Carbon is limited to 0.02% maximum to reduce graphitization risk at elevated temperature.

Caustic resistance

Strong resistance to caustic alkalies and many reducing chemicals.

Conductivity and forming

Useful thermal and electrical conductivity with good ductility and weldability.

Application areas

Where Nickel 201 is commonly evaluated

Final material selection belongs to the buyer's qualified engineer and must consider temperature, stress, fabrication, corrosion medium and governing code.

High-temperature caustic service

Evaporators and alkaline-processing equipment operating above the practical Nickel 200 range.

Chemical processing

Equipment handling reducing chemicals where commercially pure nickel is specified.

Electrical and electronics

Conductive parts and electronic components requiring low-carbon nickel.

Thermal processing

Combustion boats and selected furnace components under controlled service conditions.

Buyer questions

Nickel 201 FAQ

Quick answers for initial sourcing. Confirm critical engineering requirements against the governing specification.

What is the main difference between Nickel 200 and Nickel 201?

Nickel 201 limits carbon to 0.02% maximum, making it better suited to prolonged elevated-temperature service where Nickel 200 can graphitize.

Does Nickel 201 resist caustic alkali?

Yes. Like Nickel 200, it is widely selected for resistance to caustic alkalies, but the actual concentration, temperature and contaminants must be reviewed.

What information is needed for a Nickel 201 quote?

Send product form, standard, dimensions, condition, quantity, operating temperature, testing and MTC requirements.
