Material overview

Why industrial buyers specify Nickel 200

Nickel 200 contains at least 99.0% nickel plus cobalt. Its combination of ductility, weldability, conductivity and resistance to many reducing chemicals makes it useful in chemical processing, electronics and product-purity applications. For sustained service above 315 C, the lower-carbon Nickel 201 grade is normally preferred.

Caustic resistance

Outstanding resistance to caustic alkalies and useful resistance to many reducing chemicals.

Conductivity

Higher thermal and electrical conductivity than many nickel alloys.

Fabrication

Good ductility, malleability and weldability in annealed condition.

Key material facts

Designation
UNS N02200; W.Nr. 2.4060 / 2.4066
Density
8.89 g/cm3
Strengthening
Non-age-hardenable; strength can be increased by cold work while useful ductility is retained.
Temperature note
Normally limited to service below 315 C because prolonged higher-temperature exposure can cause graphitization; Nickel 201 is preferred above this range.
Common supply
Plate, sheet, strip, round bar, wire and custom-cut blanks

Buyer questions

Nickel 200 FAQ

Quick answers for initial sourcing. Confirm critical engineering requirements against the governing specification.

When should Nickel 201 be selected instead of Nickel 200?

Nickel 201 is normally preferred for sustained service above 315 C because its lower carbon content reduces graphitization risk.

Is Nickel 200 commercially pure nickel?

Yes. The published limiting composition requires at least 99.0% nickel plus cobalt, and typical commercial material is approximately 99.6% nickel.

What should be included in a Nickel 200 RFQ?

State the product form, ASTM standard, dimensions, temper or condition, quantity, testing, certificate requirements and destination.
