Material overview

Why industrial buyers specify Inconel 600

The high nickel content of Alloy 600 supports resistance to many organic and inorganic compounds and chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking. Chromium improves performance in oxidizing conditions and sulfur-bearing environments. The alloy is strengthened by cold work rather than precipitation hardening.

Heat resistance

Useful oxidation resistance and mechanical performance in furnace and thermal-processing equipment.

Corrosion resistance

High nickel content supports resistance to many media and chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking.

Fabrication

Available in multiple wrought forms and generally workable with nickel-alloy fabrication practices.

Buyer questions

Inconel 600 FAQ

Quick answers for initial sourcing. Confirm critical engineering requirements against the governing specification.

Is Alloy 600 age hardenable?

No. Alloy 600 is not precipitation hardenable; higher strength is normally obtained through cold work.

What is the difference between Alloy 600 and 601?

Alloy 601 contains more chromium and an aluminum addition for enhanced high-temperature oxidation resistance. Alloy 600 remains a broad corrosion-and-heat engineering grade.

What should be specified for plate or bar?

State ASTM/AMS standard, form, condition, dimensions, tolerance, quantity, testing and MTC requirements.
