Monel R-405 has essentially the same nickel-copper base and corrosion behavior as Monel 400, with controlled higher sulfur to improve chip breaking and machinability. It is chiefly supplied as bar or screw-machine stock and is generally not recommended as a universal substitute for other product forms.
Controlled sulfur provides improved chip breaking for automatic screw-machine operations.
Corrosion and physical properties are broadly similar to Monel 400.
Primarily intended for bar and automatic screw-machine stock rather than broad fabrication use.
