Nickel 200 vs Nickel 201

The central purchasing difference is carbon control. Nickel 201 limits carbon more tightly and is normally considered when prolonged elevated-temperature exposure makes graphitization a concern.

Procurement comparison

Both grades are commercially pure wrought nickel. They share many corrosion and fabrication characteristics, but they should not be substituted without reviewing temperature, governing specification and design requirements.

Selection logic

Which grade should a buyer specify?

The drawing, process conditions and applicable code control the decision. The points below help prepare a technically complete inquiry.

Choose Nickel 200 when

The governing specification or engineering design explicitly calls for UNS N02200 and service temperature does not create the low-carbon requirement.

Evaluate Nickel 201 when

Prolonged service above about 315°C is expected, or the drawing and applicable specification require UNS N02201.

Do not select by price alone

Confirm carbon limit, mechanical condition, dimensions and certification before comparing offers.

State the exact form

A bar inquiry and a thin-strip inquiry follow different production routes, tolerances and minimum quantities.
