Nickel Alloy Grade Cross-Reference

Use this table to reconcile common alloy names with UNS and Werkstoff designations before requesting a quotation. Always keep the governing material specification and product form on the inquiry.

Common designations used in inquiries

Trade names may be trademarked, while UNS and W.Nr. designations identify material families. Chemistry, mechanical properties and permitted forms are controlled by the cited product standard.

Avoid specification errors

A grade number is only the first step

A quote-ready inquiry also identifies the product standard, dimensions, condition, test documentation and destination.

Do not omit product form

The applicable standard can differ for plate, bar, tube, wire and forgings.

State the condition

Annealed, cold-worked, solution-treated and aged conditions are not equivalent.

Control substitutions

Require written approval before a supplier substitutes a related grade or standard.

Match the MTC

Purchase-order designations should match the mill certificate and marking requirements.

Quote-ready inquiry

Send the complete material designation.

Include the grade, specification, form, dimensions, condition, quantity and destination.
