Use “UNS N04400 / Monel 400” and list any project-approved designation. If substitution is prohibited, say so explicitly.

A useful quotation starts with more than the grade name. State the governing standard, final dimensions, condition, inspection documents and delivery basis so suppliers quote the same requirement.

Begin with the purchase specification
Monel 400 is commonly identified as UNS N04400 and W.Nr. 2.4360. For rod, bar and wire, ASTM B164 is a common product standard. A designation helps identify the material, but it does not replace the complete purchase specification.
Name the product standard
Specify ASTM B164 and the required edition when the project controls it. A bar quotation does not cover plate, tube or forging standards.
Identify project requirements
Service conditions, pressure design and code compliance remain the buyer's engineering responsibility. Attach any governing project specification.
Dimensions and finish
Define the bar that must actually arrive
Diameter alone is not enough. Finished-part allowance, tolerance, length, straightness and surface condition can change both source selection and processing cost.

Condition and verification
Put acceptance requirements in writing
Terms such as “standard condition” or “with certificate” are too broad. The supplier should know which condition, tests and documents will be used for acceptance before quoting.
Supply condition
State the required manufacturing and delivery condition, including annealing, cold work, hardness or surface-processing requirements that apply.
Material certificate
Specify the certificate type required by the project, such as EN 10204 3.1 where applicable. Confirm heat-number and test-result linkage before purchase.
Inspection and testing
List dimensional inspection, visual inspection, PMI, ultrasonic testing, hardness testing or third-party inspection only when required, with the method and acceptance criteria.
Traceability
Define the marking needed on full bars and cut pieces. Include tags, transferred heat identification or special marking in the RFQ.
Testing cannot always be added after material has been produced or cut. Put all inspection, sampling, witness and documentation requirements in the RFQ and purchase order.
Packing and delivery
Connect logistics to the quotation
Export packing, delivery route and requested date affect cost and lead-time feasibility. Ask suppliers to confirm them instead of relying on a general website statement.
Protection and packing
State whether bars require end protection, separators, wrapping, bundling, a wooden case or another agreed export method. Note any timber restrictions.
Destination and Incoterm
Provide the destination city or port and requested Incoterm. Offers are not comparable when their delivery boundaries differ.
Required date
Give the required arrival or dispatch date and distinguish it from a preferred date. Lead time is confirmed after specification, source and inspection review.
