Alloy 625 Round Bar RFQ Guide
For round-bar inquiries, naming the grade is only the start. The required standard, delivery condition, final size, tolerance and inspection level determine whether quotations can be compared on the same basis.
State the as-supplied condition and any machining allowance before comparing offers.Start with the designation
Identify the material without ambiguity
Use the designation that appears on the drawing or purchasing specification. Do not replace a controlled material requirement with a trade name alone.
Product standard
For rod and bar, ASTM B446 is a commonly referenced specification for UNS N06625. State the required edition or the controlling customer/ASME/AMS document when one applies.
Product form
Write “round bar” and clarify whether you require mill-length bar, cut lengths, rough-machined blanks or forging stock. These are not interchangeable supply routes.
End use
A short application note—such as machined component, fastener, marine part or process-equipment component—helps identify the relevant condition, testing and documentation questions.
RFQ fields
What to include in an Alloy 625 round bar inquiry
Separate every size line. Attach the drawing or purchase specification where available.
1. Grade and standard: Alloy 625 / UNS N06625; ASTM B446 or the governing specification and revision.
2. Diameter and tolerance: Nominal diameter, tolerance class and whether the dimension is before or after machining.
3. Length and cutting: Random, fixed, cut-to-length or blank length; include permissible length tolerance and end condition.
4. Delivery condition and surface: State the required condition shown on the specification, plus surface expectations such as peeled, ground or machined where applicable.
5. Quantity: Pieces and net weight by size; identify sample, prototype, production or annual-demand quantities separately.
6. Testing and documents: Specify the requested material test certificate, chemical analysis, mechanical testing, PMI, UT, dimensional report or agreed third-party inspection.
7. Packing and shipping: Include destination, requested delivery date, Incoterm, packing method, corrosion protection and marking instructions.

Three details that change the offer
These details are frequently missing from first inquiries and can lead to quotes that are not directly comparable.
As-supplied versus finished diameter
If bar will be machined, state whether the requested diameter is the supplied diameter or the finished component diameter, and specify the required machining allowance.
Condition is part of the requirement
Do not assume that a listed alloy grade defines the delivery condition. Use the drawing or governing standard to state the required condition and acceptance basis.
Inspection must be agreed early
Inspection agency, hold points, test scope, certificate type and acceptance criteria should be agreed before the quotation or purchase order, not after material is prepared.
